“Dhanvantri Diwas”
Bharat as it is known for its innumerable gods and deities, the existence of a deity as a symbol of health and medicine is quite evident. Dhanvantari idolised as the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu possessing four hands holding a Shankha, Chakra, Jalauka (leech) and a pitcher containing elixir of immortality (amrita), is considered as the deity for health and medicine.
DHANVANTARI DIWAS also known as Dhanvantari Trayodashi or Dhanteras is believed to be the day when lord Dhanvantari arose from the ocean with a pitcher containing the elixir for immortality. People throughout the nation pray to Lord Dhanvantari, seeking blessing for their well being and a prosperous and healthy life for themselves and for their family. Dhanvantari is considered the pioneer and propagator of Ayurveda, consequently as a mark of respect; the Indian Govt. has declared Dhanvantari Divas as National Ayurveda Day.
The National Medicos Organisation celebrates Dhanvantari Divas to spread awareness about our roots and Bharatiya principles of healthcare.
